AI Just Beat Human Recruiters in Job Interviews

Podcast cover

Fullstack HR

AI voice agents are outperforming human recruiters in conducting job interviews, according to a large-scale field experiment involving 70,000 applicants. Data reveals that candidates interviewed by AI were 12% more likely to receive job offers and 17% more likely to stay in their roles for at least 30 days compared to those interviewed by humans. These AI-led sessions proved more effective because they followed more structured formats, covered more required topics, and elicited higher-clarity responses with fewer filters from applicants. Notably, 78% of candidates preferred the AI interface, which also halved reports of gender discrimination. While technical failures occurred in 7% of cases and some recruiters initially devalued AI-generated results, the study suggests a shift in HR roles from conducting interviews to evaluating high-quality data. This evidence challenges the assumption that human interaction is essential for the interview stage, particularly in high-volume hiring sectors like retail and logistics.
