Gabor Mate: The Childhood Lie That’s Ruining All Of Our Lives
The Diary Of A CEO with Steven Bartlett
Trauma functions as an internal wound sustained during childhood, shaping an individual's worldview, personality, and physiological health long into adulthood. Rather than being defined by specific events, trauma manifests as the loss of connection to one's authentic self, often leading to compensatory behaviors like workaholism or addiction to soothe deep-seated feelings of inadequacy. Modern society frequently mislabels these survival mechanisms as inherent genetic disorders, such as ADHD, when they are actually normal responses to abnormal, stressful environments. Healing requires cultivating awareness, authenticity, and agency to decouple self-worth from external validation. By recognizing that illness is often a process rooted in life history rather than a discrete, isolated pathology, individuals can begin to dismantle the "puppet master" of unconscious trauma, ultimately reclaiming the capacity to live authentically and move beyond the constraints of past conditioning.
