🏦 Proposed Executive Order on Political Debanking

Context: The White House is reportedly preparing an executive order to penalize banks for closing accounts based on political beliefs.
Key Provisions:
- Investigate violations of the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, antitrust laws, and consumer protection laws.
- Impose fines, consent decrees, or other penalties.
- Require banks to revoke internal policies that may have led to politically motivated closures.
- Direct the Small Business Administration to review loan practices.
Targeted Groups: Conservative, Christian, missionary, and Second Amendment organizations allegedly affected.
Institutions Mentioned: JP Morgan Chase and Bank of America (accused but deny wrongdoing).
Political Framing: The commentary frames this as a move by Donald Trump to protect conservatives from political discrimination by financial institutions.

🏛️ Texas House Democrats Walkout

Event: Over 50 Texas House Democrats left the state (to Illinois, New York, Massachusetts) to deny quorum and block a GOP-led congressional redistricting plan that could add up to five Republican-leaning U.S. House seats.
Historical Context: This mirrors similar walkouts in 2003 and 2021.
Governor Greg Abbott's Response:
- Issued a 3 PM ultimatum for Democrats to return.
- Threatened to declare seats vacant or issue civil arrest warrants (valid only in Texas).
- Suggested possible felony bribery charges if lawmakers accepted or offered money to skip votes.
Democrats' Defense: Claimed they are defending democratic norms and using legal tools under Texas law.
Criticism: The commentary accuses Democrats of prioritizing political agendas over urgent issues like flood relief.
