What happens when your body feels more than your mind can make sense of?In this deeply grounding episode of Trauma Rewired, Elisabeth and Jennifer open up a necessary and often overlooked conversation about peak somatic experiences—powerful moments of healing that happen in the body, not the mind.

Whether you’re drawn to psychedelics, breathwork, or trauma release exercises, this episode unpacks the neurobiological, emotional, and spiritual layers of somatic breakthroughs. But more importantly, it’s a cautionary tale: for those with chronic dissociation or unresolved trauma, these experiences can be overwhelming or even destabilizing if approached without preparation, interoceptive training, and long-term integration.

Through the lens of Neurosomatic Intelligence (NSI), you’ll learn how peak somatic experiences interact with neuroplasticity, the default mode network, implicit memory, and emotional patterning. Jennifer and Elisabeth share their personal journeys and offer practical tools to build capacity, safety, and support before—and after—these experiences.

Whether you’ve already walked this path or are considering it, this episode will help you explore the power and risks of embodiment with reverence, curiosity, and care.

Topics discussed in this episode:

What defines a peak somatic experience through the NSI lens
The science behind psychedelics, neuroplasticity, and the 5HT2A receptor
Why preparation is more than a checklist—it’s a relationship with your body
The role of the default mode network in identity, emotion, and trauma
Emotional breakthroughs: what they are and what they’re not
How dissociation impacts your ability to benefit from embodiment work
Why "purging" trauma isn't the goal—and what to do instead
The risks of somatic experiences for trauma survivors without proper resourcing
Real-life stories of dysregulation and recovery after peak experiences
Building interoceptive awareness and emotional processing capacity
Why integration is the true work of healing—not the experience itself
Rethinking psychedelics as collective healing, not just personal growth
