在7月21日美国总统拜登宣布退选之前，哈里斯原本被认为是表现不佳的副总统。但她却在短短一个月内声势大涨，不但筹得创纪录的5亿4000万美元（约7亿新元）资金，她的民调支持率也迅速追平特朗普，重新点燃了民主党胜选的希望。
