Robotics remains a complex field where machines struggle with basic physical tasks like grasping objects, despite significant breakthroughs in computer vision and large language models. While humanoid robots generate immense hype, their practical utility is limited by the "data gap"—the massive amount of real-world experience required for machines to navigate unpredictable environments compared to the vast digital datasets available for language models. Traditional mathematical modeling, once the standard for engineering, now competes with "model-free" approaches that leverage massive data and reinforcement learning. However, successful innovation often requires a hybrid strategy: integrating robust, old-fashioned engineering with data-driven techniques. Furthermore, the intersection of art and science provides a unique perspective, as artistic experimentation encourages creative problem-solving that complements the rigorous, often rigid constraints of scientific research, ultimately highlighting the value of human-robot complementarity over simple substitution.
