Genuine intentionality remains elusive in artificial agents because they lack autopoiesis, the self-creating process that grounds biological values and emotional caring. While human designers face a "glass ceiling" in creating complex systems, evolutionary robotics offers a path forward by allowing architectures to emerge without human preconceptions.
