Peter Thiel: AI: Intelligent, Conscious, or Merely Evil? (COSM, 2022)

Podcast cover

Peter Thiel Audio

Artificial intelligence currently functions less as a source of genuine intelligence or consciousness and more as a tool for societal derangement or centralized control. The simulation hypothesis, once a popular framework for understanding technological progress, has lost its explanatory power as modern AI applications like TikTok demonstrate a clear capacity for polarization and social manipulation. While some proponents argue for a future of superabundance driven by technological breakthroughs, current progress reveals stagnation in physical-world sectors like energy and medicine. Addressing these challenges requires moving beyond the binary of decentralized, runaway violence and centralized, totalitarian states. Instead, society must reclaim human agency and critical thinking to navigate the risks posed by AI, ensuring that technological development serves human needs rather than undermining the foundations of a free and functional society.
