Lebanon stands at an existential crossroads, requiring a fundamental shift toward full state sovereignty and the dismantling of the "mafia-militia" alliance that has long paralyzed governance. Achieving this transformation necessitates the state reclaiming its monopoly on force, particularly by addressing Hezbollah’s influence and the deep-seated corruption within state institutions. Key strategies include implementing decentralization to improve regional development, conducting transparent elections to restore public trust, and pursuing a definitive end to the conflict with Israel. While the Lebanese Armed Forces remain a critical institution for stability, their effectiveness depends on sustained political will and strategic international support. The current geopolitical climate offers a rare, historic opportunity to move beyond proxy status and establish Lebanon as a functional, sovereign model, provided that both domestic leaders and international partners maintain a long-term commitment to these reforms.
