Jenny Taitz, a clinical psychologist, presents actionable strategies for managing stress by resetting thought patterns, physiology, and behavior. She argues that stress is co-created and spread, but can be reset in minutes through simple pivots. Taitz introduces three stress resets: playing with negative thoughts by externalizing or singing them away, practicing a half smile to shift emotional experience, and acting opposite to emotion-driven urges, such as responding constructively instead of sending a hostile text. She emphasizes that these resets, especially opposite action, improve mental health and resilience, and suggests creating a hope kit with mood-elevating items to reinforce positive behaviors. Following the talk, in a Q&A with TED's Joey Katona, Taitz recommends using the acronym STOP (Slow down, Take a step back, Observe, and Proceed mindfully) to avoid escalating stress.
