In today’s episode, Joe and Zack interview Dr. Stephen Bernard about Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (ECPR) and how they do it The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. As most of you know, Dr. Bernard has been a huge contributor to the critical care world. While he is widely known for his work with therapeutic hypothermia (2002 NEJM ‘Treatment of Comatose Survivors of Out-of-Hospital Cardia Arrest with Induced Hypothermia), Dr. Bernard is now at the forefront of ECPR, reshaping pre-hospital dogma and intra-arrest management, including the use of ECMO during cardiac arrest.
