The United States electrical grid has become a critical national security bottleneck that threatens to undermine American leadership in the global AI arms race. While domestic energy generation has flatlined since 2000 due to regulatory stagnation and a shift toward climate-centric mitigation, China’s electricity output has exploded to surpass the U.S., EU, and India combined. The primary constraint is not a lack of fuel or potential, but a fragmented, aging infrastructure where 70% of components are over 25 years old and inter-regional transfer capacity is nearly non-existent. To bypass these decade-long regulatory queues, "hyperscalers" like Microsoft and XAI are adopting power coupling—building dedicated, off-grid generation and gigascale batteries directly next to data centers. Solving this crisis requires transitioning from a restrictive 1970s-era regulatory framework to an intentional system design that prioritizes energy abundance as the foundational platform for economic and military supremacy.
