Modern universities, excluding technical STEM fields, increasingly cause more harm than good by propagating a postmodern collectivist doctrine that denies individual sovereignty. This ideological shift transforms the campus free speech debate from a matter of policy into a fundamental philosophical conflict over whether humans possess the capacity for independent, intelligible communication. By reducing individuals to mere avatars of group identity, this framework replaces reasoned negotiation with a Hobbesian power struggle. This rejection of the individual often stems from a desire to avoid the "unbearable responsibility" of personal accountability, leading to a culture of overprotection and cowardice. Ultimately, the only effective defense against such burgeoning totalitarianism is the commitment of the individual to speak the truth, as even a single person's refusal to lie can destabilize a tyrannical system before it transitions from amateur to professional control.
