今天我们要走进一段独特的美食探索之旅——从山东鲁菜大赛的烟火气，到跨越太平洋的饮食文化碰撞，一起品味中餐背后的故事与温度。

01. Shandong Cuisine 山东鲁菜

主播Adrian以外国媒体记者（foreign media correspondent）的身份参与了一场非常有趣的event——山东鲁菜美食大赛（Shandong Lu Cai Food Competition）。

There were chefs (厨师) from 16 cities in Shandong province who all gathered in 崂山 to showcase their local cuisines (展示当地美食).

作为在山东生活了近十年的外国人，主播Adrian有了“山东胃”——已经习惯了山东菜系的风味和佐料（accustomed to the flavors and ingredients）。

主播Adrian觉得Shandong cuisine和中国其他菜系相比，其中的一个特别之处就是对大蒜的运用（the use of garlic）。山东作为“世界大蒜之都（the garlic capital of the world）”，菜里面的大蒜不会少。

在青岛，有很多海鲜在做的时候都会放garlic，比如：烤生蚝（grilled oysters）。They have so much garlic on them.

主播Flora和主播Adrian都纷纷表示：

Grilled oysters是他们逛小吃街（snack streets）或夜市（night markets）的“go-to”snacks（必点美食）。

02. Food Culture Shock 饮食文化冲击

刚到中国时，主播Adrian也经历过food culture shock（饮食文化冲击）。But luckily, they are all positive shock (正向的冲击)。

地道的Chinese food与过去Adrian在美国所熟悉的中餐截然不同。In America, Chinese food is usually quite Americanized or localized (本土化的).

*一般被本土化的中国菜和正宗的Chinese dishes，有什么区别？会有什么调整呢？

在美国，许多中国菜肴大多是deep fried（油炸的），而且通常very salty（非常咸）or very sweet（非常甜）。And they are not as diverse (多样化的) as authentic (正宗的) Chinese food.

当主播Adrian来到中国的时候，he was like a kid in a candy shop。He was trying everything he could find, 因为每一道菜都与家乡熟悉的味道如此不同、如此独特（so different and unique）。

During one of his visits back to the U.S. to see his family (回美国探亲)，他在一家中餐馆点了“饺子”（ordered dumplings），端上来的却是“包子形状”的饺子。

It just tasted like basic pork baozi (猪肉包子)，which isn’t bad, 但这确实不是主播Adrian点饺子时所期待的样子。

03. Authentic Chinese Food in US 美国的正宗中餐

主播Adrian在美国也发现过正宗的中餐馆。一家hotpot restaurant（火锅店）让他印象深刻。因为在来中国之前，he had never heard of hotpot。Hotpot is a super common and popular meal in china, 但是在美国比较少见。

这和美国的食品安全法规（food safety regulations in America）有关系：很多美国地区的餐厅是 are not allowed to serve raw foods (不允许提供“生食”)，like chicken and pork，所以hotpot就很难普及了。

美国的中餐馆取名多采用English names，例如：“Bamboo Garden (竹园)”，“Golden Dragon (金龙饭店)”；也有像“Chengdu Taste (舌尖上的成都)”这样包含中国地名的店名。

主播Adrian有一次还在中餐馆里点了土豆丝，which is not on their menu.

04. Food: A Bridge Connecting Cultures and Memories

食物：连接文化与记忆的桥梁

主播Adrian有一次和一位特别想体验地道中餐（experience authentic Chinese food）的朋友在中餐馆里点餐，the menu was very huge so they ordered a wide variety of dishes (各式各样的菜品). 这让Adrian感觉像是在中国。

这家店所在的城区有不少华人和Asian communities（亚裔社区），and some big universities with many international students (国际生).

这和青岛很像，青岛也有不少留学生和外国人在这里学习、工作，而且这里也有不少西餐厅，这些餐厅可能也会让他们想起家乡的味道（remind them of their home countries food）。

无论是在中国的国际都市，还是在美国的华人社区，food really does connect people to places and memories (食物总是能把人和特定的地方或者记忆关联在一起).
