Kevin T. Carter is the Founder & Chief Investment Officer of EMQQ. While Kevin considers himself an active ‘value’ investor - a Buffett/Munger disciple -, a 20+-year partnership with Princeton economist and indexing legend Dr. Burton Malkiel, has seen his career take an unexpected turn.

Having co-founded Active Index Advisors in 2002, a pioneer in so-called ‘direct-indexing’, Kevin’s ambition had been to improve retail access to financial markets – a clear motivation in his founding of fractional share/dollar investment platform eInvesting, a few years earlier. However, it was a subsequent pivot toward China and Emerging Markets that changed everything.

Kevin launched EMQQ in 2014, an Emerging Markets Internet & Ecommerce ETF (available to UK investors). Kevin and I discuss what McKinsey labels the “biggest opportunity in the history of capitalism” by analysing the regions’ digital consumer revolution, before studying Evergrande’s impact, and how to identify the next Tencent or Alibaba.
