As discussed on this podcast for some time now, carbon 60, commonly known as C60, is part of The Mitochondrial Triad for its many mitochondrial-boosting properties; namely, its ability to mitigate oxidative stress. Today's guest, Chris Burres, is all too familiar with C60, as he is the co-founder of SES Research, which has been producing C60 for industrial purposes since the early '90s. Through some rather serendipitous events, including a 2012 study where SES Research supplied the C60 that ended up extending the lifespan of rats by 90%(!!), Chris and his company found themselves flung into the crazy biohacking and longevity communities that were yearning to have C60 for human consumption.In our conversation today, Chris details the mechanisms of how C60 works to improve mitochondrial function (most notably, the B.O.S.S. Theory) and why it could be a key molecule to help humans extend lifespan beyond our current expectations. He also outlines the unfortunate state of the C60 supplement space and how most supplements have a much lower concentration than they claim and that some even have ZERO C60 in their product at all! This is why he has trademarked the term ESS60, which delineates an ultra high purity C60 that is specifically made for human consumption; meaning, if you are purchasing a C60 supplement, then "ESS60" must be in the ingredients list.
