In this episode of the AM-PM Podcast, Kevin King interviews Jim Kennemer from Cosmos Sourcing about sourcing products from Vietnam as an alternative to China, especially given the fluctuating trade war and tariff situation. Jim shares his experiences of working in Vietnam since 2014, discusses the types of products that are well-suited for Vietnamese manufacturing (apparel, textiles, wooden goods), and explains the infrastructure and labor landscape. They discuss the increasing presence of Chinese-owned factories in Vietnam, the importance of having detailed product specifications (tech packs) when sourcing outside of China, and the need for building relationships with factories through in-person visits. Jim also touches on the limitations of sourcing in Mexico and other countries, the intellectual property considerations in Vietnam, and his personal experiences of living and working in Vietnam.
