Women under 60 years of age with the most significant calcium buildup in their breast arteries, compared with those who had the least, were 2.8 times more likely to die from cardiac disease within a 5 year period. This from an Emory University and Mayo Clinic collaborative study of 56,000 mammograms presented at the American College of Cardiology's Annual Scientific Session.

Visualizing calcium plaques in breast arteries seen on cancer-screening mammograms can incidentally predict cardiovascular disease.
