Bret was hit with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS), a condition where your immune system turns on you, attacking your peripheral nerves. It’s as scary as it sounds. For someone as active and healthy as Bret, the sudden loss of control over his own body was beyond terrifying. Imagine going from your everyday life to being hospitalised multiple times while doctors try to solve the mystery of what’s happening inside you.

His symptoms hit hard. He lost the use of his arms and legs, and felt as if he was burning from the inside out, something I'd sure never raise my hand to endure. When the GBS diagnosis finally came, it was the start of a long, grueling road to recovery.
