The traditional resume is an outdated and ineffective metric for assessing human potential, failing even a genius like Leonardo da Vinci, who authored the first one in 1482. Despite technological advancements, the hiring process remains stagnant, relying on applicant tracking systems that prioritize keywords over actual capability. This reliance on a single document fosters systemic bias against women and minorities while forcing candidates to use unnatural buzzwords like "spearheaded" to bypass AI filters. Modern recruitment should instead pivot toward diverse evaluation methods such as online skills assessments, video testimonials, gamified challenges, and situational simulations. By moving away from the rigid, subjective constraints of the resume, employers can reduce the high financial cost of bad hires and build more inclusive, authentic workplace cultures that value non-traditional career paths and genuine communication skills.
