Imbue, an AI research lab, has secured $200 million in Series B funding, pushing its valuation beyond $1 billion. This funding round includes prominent investors like Astera Institute, NVIDIA, Cruise CEO Kyle Vogt, and Notion co-founder Simon Last, bringing Imbue's total capital raised to $220 million. The company aims to develop AI systems capable of reasoning and coding to accomplish larger goals, focusing on robust reasoning as a primary blocker for effective AI agents. Imbue's strategy has evolved from exploring human intelligence in 3D environments to developing models useful for coding, similar to GitHub Copilot. They are investing in very large models with over 100 billion parameters, fine-tuned for reasoning, and trained on an Nvidia co-designed compute cluster with 10,000 H100 GPUs. Additionally, Imbue is creating its own suite of AI and machine learning tools, including prototypes for debugging and visual interfaces, with the ultimate goal of enabling users to build custom AI agents.
